The Glass System was the third system explored by human drones. In 2136 several probes were sent through the suspected transit point M36 in the Empyria system. Two returned several days later with information about the newly discovered terrestrian world orbiting a red dwarf star. Exploration took about 2 years and finally the first colonization attempts started in 2139, resulting in three orbital stations and a surface colony within 6 years. The colloquial designation “Glass” was established when mining companies started with the mining of silicates with unusual properties not found on Earth. Soon the “glass factories” were known everywhere and became the unofficial namesake of the second planet. The official name is Sintra after the Portuguese explorer Pêro de Sintra (15th century).
